VIA Technologies has announced the launch of its latest motherboard, known as the VIA VB8002 Mini-ITX board, exclusively for home media server platforms. It claims to enhance media server applications with the higher performance efficiency of the VIA Nano processor.
Equipped with the advanced 1.6GHz VIA Nano processor and unified VIA CX700M2 media system processor, the VIA VB8002 promises to offer an improved digital multimedia performance along with a support for various digital media technologies.
“The VIA Nano processor is ideally suited to server applications that require superb performance in tandem with great power efficiency. We are convinced that the VIA VB8002 board will be applauded by system integrators as the most well balanced, feature-rich media server platform available,†stated Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies, Inc.
Housed in a 17cm x 17cm Mini-ITX form factor, the motherboard incorporates an onboard digital HDTV encoder that ensures high-definition video resolutions and VIA Vinyl 7.1 channel HD audio that delivers a rich audio experience. An array of consumer I/O options are also included that comprise of composite and component RCA ports, DVI and S-Video ports, S/PDIF audio, an in-built Gigabit Ethernet and onboard connectors for LVDS and TV out.
Apart from that, it supports an advanced ASIC with VIA’s Advance ProScale Technology for standard HDTV resolution output, the VIA UniChrome Pro II integrated graphics processor (IGP) that offers support for hardware MPEG-2/-4 and WMV9 acceleration and the Chromotion CE engine for crystal clear video playback.
The VIA VB8002 motherboard is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, XPe, CE and Linux operating systems.
