Investing a lot in an iPhone may also mean that owners would like to keep it looking as good as new. After last month’s release of similarly designed Blackberry skins, OtterBox is out to encourage Apple iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users to deck up their devices with the protective Commuter and Commuter TL series cases.
These two cases are a hybridization of the durable Defender series’ and suave Impact series’ better characteristics. The customized patterns comprise of three layers, a self-adhering screen cover, and a silicone wrapping enveloped in a polycarbonate shell. The silicone plugs over the audio port and dock connector minimize dust intrusion. Both come with an installation card to assist application of the self-adhering screen as well as a microfiber cleaning cloth.
“These new cases combine the most innovative features from previous lines to give customers style and protection,†remarked Curt Richardson founder and CEO, OtterBox. “The Commuter Series is an inverse design of the Defender; the hard plastic is now on the outside of the case with protective silicone on the inside. This new design slims-down the size and changes the look and feel of the case.â€
The Commuter series has a shell that hugs the top, side and bottom grips of the phone’s body quite snugly. The silicone protection guards the corners against bumps and falls. The skins come with two optional color packs, the first containing navy, maroon and grey interchangeable plastic shells, the second having white, yellow and green shells. The case is manufactured in black silicone or optionally, plastic. It weighs 21.11g and has dimensions of 4.71 x 2.61 x 0.62 inches.
The Commuter TL series is available in black plastic or silicone and will soon be out in the colors white, pink, blue, green, yellow and red. For added protection, the vertical sides are enwrapped in an inner core, while the outer surface is textured and has a see-through plastic shield over the Apple logo. Measuring 4.73 x 2.63 x 0.66 inches, this 20.87g case can be accessorized with a 3 pack of adhesive screen protectors.
The price of these designer covers is not out yet.
