HP Gives Clean Chit to Their Printers

HP Logo Recently we have reported about the Australian study, which showed that laser printers release dangerous particles that are as harmful as cigarette smoke. The study also stated that all big branded printers were included in the list of risky printers.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) yesterday defended themselves by saying it does not agree to the study and simply rejected the idea that emissions pose a danger.

“We do not believe there is a link between printer emissions and any public health risk,” said company in a statement.

The statement also said, “After a preliminary review of the Queensland University of Technology research on particle emission characteristics of office printers, HP does not agree with its conclusion or some of the bold claims the authors have made recently in press reports.”

“Specifically, HP does not see an association between printer use by customers and negative health effects for volatile organic compounds, ozone or dust. While we recognize ultrafine, fine, and coarse particles are emitted from printing systems, these levels are consistently below recognized occupational exposure limits.” the statement concludes.

The study tested 62 printers and categorized them as non-, low-, medium- or high-emitters. HP’s two printers the LaserJet 1320 and 4250 were classified as the high emitters.
