LG Optimus 4X HD Tegra 3 smartphone unveiled

LG Optimus 4X HD

The freshly unveiled LG Optimus 4X HD phone takes name cues from the previously launched Optimus 2X, which got its title from the Tegra 2 processor powering it. In the case of the forthcoming Optimus, it attaches the ‘4’ to itself in order to indicate the 1.5GHz quad core Nvidia CPU integrated into the chassis.

The said processor recently got an official word to replace the explanation about the variable symmetric multiprocessing system arriving with a ‘ninja core’ or a ‘companion core’. The architecture now goes by the moniker 4-Plus-1. The way it works is that four cores throw their weight around when it comes to demanding tasks such as gaming or HD video playback, while the fifth one kicks in when simpler chores like processing emails and operating in standby mode are called for.

Narrowing down on the new Optimus’ main specifications, it shows off a large, 4.7-inch True HD IPS touch display that’s capable of playing out visuals in 1,280 x 720p resolution. The device has a noticeably sleek 8.9mm side profile and it rides on the Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich platform. With 1GB LP DDR2 memory and 16GB eMMC storage, it sips from a 2,150mAh battery. Additionally, users can look forward to an 8MP main camera and a secondary 1.3MP one for video calling.

The exact details on the LG Optimus release date and price haven’t been announced by the company. All we know is that this Tegra 3 phone will first hit Europe in the second quarter of 2012, before launching in other countries across the globe.
