Nokia PureView 808 coming to India in Q2 2012

While the Nokia PureView 808 is busy making headlines in Europe, the phone is also hogging its fair share of limelight in India. The Finnish company hosted an event in Mumbai to discuss its internal working and said that the device will enter this part of the world in the coming weeks.

Vesa Jutila, the head of Symbian product marketing at Noki, revealed that the PureView runs the latest Symbian Belle mobile platform with the Feature pack 1 add-on. This add-on is responsible for a number of new attributes that include the latest version of the Maps app with geo-tagging support, some more widgets and an enhanced audio experience in the form of Dolby Digital plus surround sound. The Feature pack update will also be made available for other smartphones running the Belle OS.

The 41MP camera sensor of the phone collects details and utilizes image oversampling to capture pictures in 5MP resolution. The PureView imaging technology and Carl Zeiss optics have also been included in the device to enhance the quality. Although it is currently available with the Symbian OS, the company will be introducing the technology in the Lumia series too.

Besides the sensor, this handset comes equipped with a ClearBlack AMOLED multi-touch display fitted with Corning Gorilla glass. This HDMI enabled device allows users to launch music and video applications while it is connected to an HDTV. Capable of offering a long battery life of up to 11 hours in the 2G mode, it has been embedded with a microSD card slot for increasing the memory up to 32GB.

The Nokia PureView 808 release date and price details for India have not been disclosed. But it is expected to be made available in the second quarter of 2012.
