Sony Xperia S

The Sony Xperia S, the first device to have been launched by the independent Sony Mobile Communications, has finally dropped anchor in India. Besides making the aforementioned smartphone available in the country, the company also introduced the Xperia P and U of the NXT series as well as the sola, which are slated to hit store shelves in Q2 2012.

Dressed in shades of black and white, the Xperia S sports a 4.3-inch TFT touchscreen that is said to be capable of resisting scratches. A 1.5GHz dual core processor makes it efficient enough to support multiple operations at once, while the Gingerbread OS works towards offering an intuitive user interface. Although it ships with the Android 2.3 platform, the company will be releasing the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the phone in the second quarter of this year. The smartphone is also equipped with a 12.1MP camera, possessing attributes like auto focus, LED flash and 16x digital zoom amongst others.

“Xperia smartphones are a cornerstone of Sony’s entertainment experience and we wanted to create a campaign that is true to Sony, one that is unique, memorable and sparks consumers’ curiosity and imagination. The Made of Imagination campaign demonstrates that Xperia smartphones are made of more than microprocessors and memory chips – they are designed to let consumers use their creativity and imagination to drive connected experiences that interest and excite them,” quoted P. Balaji, Managing Director, Sony Mobile Communications India.

The Sony Xperia P, U and sola handsets don a Reality display each, powered by the Mobile Bravia engine. The former is armed with an 8MP camera, whereas the other two have been embedded with 5MP rear-facing cameras each. These Gingerbread devices can be upgraded to Android 4.0. Users will have an option to pick up the P variant in shades of black, silver and red, while the sola is splashed with black, white and red colors. The black or white colored U handset of the NXT series is accompanied by pink and yellow caps.
