Since it is on an Android smartphone expanding spree, Samsung says that it has come up with a new and simplified system of naming their devices. This naming strategy has been devised to organize and group all devices into five sections, each of which would be named with an alphabet. After grouping, another indicator which will identify specific functionality is to be further designated to these groups.

“As Samsung continues to innovate, our goal is to provide consumers with an experience uniquely tailored to their needs. We have introduced steps to ensure users can simply identify the device designed to deliver the perfect experience for them,” stated JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

As per the new naming structure, Galaxy smartphones containing an ‘S’ in their name stand for Super Smart and are apparently used for those which are at the top of Samsung’s mobile portfolio. Similarly ‘R’ indicates Royal or Refined for models in the premium category, while ‘W’ is for Wonder and ‘M’ suggests Magical. Entry or strategic newer models for the cost-efficient young generation are grouped in ‘Y’ that stands for Young and ‘Plus’ indicates that the said device is an upgraded version of an existing model. Devices named ‘Pro’ are those that possess QWERTY keyboards and are made for professionals. Smartphones with ‘LTE’ in their titles utilize LTE connectivity 4G standards to provide increased mobile network capacity and speed.

Details regarding the price and availability of the Samsung Galaxy W, M Pro, Y and Y Pro smartphones have not yet been revealed.
