After being in the news for quite a while now, the Samsung Stratosphere smartphone from Verizon Wireless finally has a date fixed for its arrival. The device will be made available for consumers in the U.S. starting October 13.

Earlier rumors were hinting at a first week of October release, but there were some misses in this case. In fact, the Stratosphere has been dodging a concrete release date for quite a while now. Like all other smartphones these days, this one also flaunts a touchscreen for smooth navigation. But in order to look after the comfort of typing for heavy texters and social networking buffs, it also features a slide-out five row QWERTY keypad.

Taking a look at the significant technical specifications of this handset, it comes loaded with the Android Gingerbread 2.3 OS and 512MB RAM, along with a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird application processor. On the outside, it shows off a 5MP rear camera supported by a 1.3MP front facing one and a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen. To add to it all, the device is 4G LTE enabled on the Verizon network. The handset has internal memory of 4GB, while the external memory is expandable up to 32GB. Also, this phone is provided with a pre-loaded 4GB microSD card.

Starting October 13, the Verizon Wireless Samsung Stratosphere will be available for a price of $149.99 (approx. Rs. 7,336) after a $50 (approx. Rs. 2,450) mail-in rebate and a new two-year customer agreement. Fans can pick it from any Verizon Wireless Communications Store or optionally, online through the carrier’s official website.
