BlackBerry Empathy concept phone features transparent OLED screen

BlackBerry Empathy Concept

The fascination of technological innovations merged with true craftsmanship seems to have led to the development of this concept phone. As revealed by Yanko Design, Designers Kiki Tang and Daniel Yoon who participated in the sponsored project held by RIM Blackberry at the Art Center College of Design have cultivated the BlackBerry Empathy concept.

The designers were required to integrate an interface into the handset which combines human emotions and social networking. The unique mobile phone has to be used in collaboration with a biometrics ring that is worn by users to collect ‘emotional data’. Amusingly, the device flaunts a transparent OLED screen which turns transparent when not in use and opaque during usage. The front side of the handset is entirely a touch surface, while on the back it equips a QWERTY keyboard.

The interface according to Daniel is graphical and shows each contact as an avatar which is surrounded by two colored rings. The inner colored ring displays the contact’s previous emotional state, while the outer one represents their current emotional state. The biometrics ring estimates the emotional changes of the user which is then depicted on the Emotional Health Chart. This helps users analyze how an event has affected them or their friends emotionally. Its conductive charging dock requires no connection through wires between the handset and the station.

Well, some functions like the transparency of the handset and the cool charging dock have instantly grabbed our attention. We just wish that this BlackBerry Empathy concept is materialized into a smartphone soon in order to top our list of ‘the products we’d love to review’.
