A phone that captures images akin to a digicam? Well, Samsung Electronics claims to have made just that. The Samsung AMOLED 12MP SCH-W880 is said to be the first camera phone to have incorporated a 3x optical zoom feature.

The SCH-W880 has a 12MP camera with 2 x digital zoom plus 3x optical zoom as well as Xenon power LED flash. Quick image-saving ability means users can shoot continuously within a space of 2 seconds. The 3.3” full-touch WVGA AMOLED screen has an 800 x 480 resolution. Touch Auto-Focus tracking technology keeps the object that has been indicated with a touch within focus even if it moves within the frame. Smart Auto adjusts the scene and mode according to the object, lighting and background. Added image shooting features include Beauty Shot and Macro Shot. Video recording at 1280 x 720 resolutions works at a speed of 30fps.

The device supports H.263, H.264, MPEG4, XviD and DivX files as well as MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+, and AAC+e audio files. It operates within WCDMA-2100MHz, GSM-900MHZ, DCS-1800MHz and PCS-900MHz bands. This product has Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB 2.0HS connectivity as well. Users have access to Terrestrial DMB too. Its memory capacity amounts to 4GB internal memory and 32GB microSD. Its frame measuring 115.8 x 56.9 x 16.3mm and carries a 1,100mAh battery. The Dedicated Camera Power Key gives the phone the look and feel of a digital camera.

Samsung’s latest offering will be out in Korea in October 2009. The price tagged to this device is still under wraps.
