RIM agrees to Offer Responsibility for Sensitive Data to Indian Govt.

Finally, the Indian Government can breathe a sigh of relief as a positive step has been taken by RIM. The security measures are being considered but DoT has to follow few regulations and accept all the responsibilities.

The news says that Canada-based Research in Motion has granted permission to get ahead in sending sensitive customer data to the Department of Telecom under a condition that DoT accepts the responsibility for loss of data of any individual. The loss of data can be either by leakage of information or some malfunctioning.

RIM has also revealed few important aspects that need to be considered in order to get any legal interception of data from BlackBerry. India’s security agencies have to possess “Public Key”, which is a code of the customers’ handset, and “Private Key” that is the company’s code against that handset.

All the encrypted data packets that would be sent by BlackBerry to DoT are password protected. And to decode it, the concerned person needs to own a “Public Key” and “Private Key” as well.

The Indian Government will be happy with this move and without doubt they will be expecting more from the company. So, RIM should finalize more on the service’s security.
