P2i’s Ion-Mask Technology to make Mobile Phones work even Underwater

Mobile phone underwater P2i, a part of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory in Porton Down, UK, has developed the Ion-Mask technology that allows mobile phones to be used even underwater.

The Ion-Mask technology is said to be developed for military purposes. This technology was originally is a result of the research into creating protective NBC-proof (Nuclear and Biological Contaminants) clothing for soldiers.

The Ion-mask layer is bonded to the surface of the device via plasma injection. P2i says that the technology can alter the surface at a ‘molecular level’ to repel oil and water.

This coating protects the mobile phone from moisture, rain and also from accidental immersion.

P2i has not announced any tie-up with mobile phones manufacturing companies. In fact currently the Ion-Mask technology will only be used for the military.

But if the technology comes for regular mobile phones too, undoubtedly it will be successful. Especially text addicted people will like it as it will allow them to use the phone while having a shower too.
