McAfee VirusScan Mobile to Protect Handsets against Threats

McAfee VirusScan Mobile In the present day advance world, most people do their official or personal work on Mobile Internet. Wi-Fi is also easily available and the cost for the Internet usage is also not that high. However, we have never thought of ways of controlling viruses that originate from e-mail, instant messages and multimedia downloads.

McAfee has thus introduced the McAfee VirusScan Mobile for mobile security. This latest security component for mobile phones is included in McAfee’s Triple Play offer.

The McAfee VirusScan Mobile can be downloaded from the company site, for no extra cost, after buying McAfee Total Protection or McAfee Internet Security Suite.

“While not yet widespread, McAfee Avert Labs has identified 450 different mobile threat variants, including viruses and spyware that can threaten devices and personal information. McAfee VirusScan Mobile is proactive protection, providing customers with the peace of mind that comes from knowing they are protected today against the mobile threats of the future,” stated Todd Gebhart, senior vice president and general manager, McAfee Consumer, Mobile and Small Business.

Developed from the ground up to offer mobile protection, the McAfee VirusScan Mobile guards and protects the device against threats. SMS, MMS and e-mail are under scanning along with the incoming and outgoing data for malicious code. It also monitors and analyzes mobile data and files. In addition, it has the capability to flawlessly communicate with McAfee’s Avert Labs to update the latest protections.

The virus can come from message attachments, application downloads, Bluetooth communication and PC synchronization. It is said that hackers are increasingly using sophisticated social engineering tactics to trick users to confirm the installation of mobile malware and public mobile Internet sites have also been used to propagate malicious softwares.

For instance, Duts’ and ‘Xrove’ are the infections from mobile malware that were recently noticed. Duts attached its viral code to executable files and proved how a virus can spread within a Windows Mobile device, whereas Xrove demonstrated how a Windows mobile device can get infected via PC synchronization. Mobile variants of spyware and phishing over text messaging have been identified as well.

Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone and Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition devices are compatible with the McAfee VirusScan Mobile.
