Indian Users are not satisfied with their mobile phones

India Mobile Handset Usage and Satisfaction Study 2007 conducted by IDC (International Data Corporation) indicates that the contentment score of mobile handset users in India, has fallen down for the first time in last three years.

Sony Ericsson’s owners are most satisfied with the performances of their phones. Motorola is on the second position and Nokia on third. Last year Nokia was on the second rank and Motorola on third. Study also has shown that Motorola is the most improved brand.

According IDC’s report all other brands except Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola are below average.

Easier operations, longer life and better voice clarity are the reasons of higher customer satisfaction, while users are un-satisfied with internal memory and entertainment.

“The mobile handsets with higher memory and good entertainment features are still priced quite high. The entry-level phones are relatively poor on these parameters contributing to decline in satisfaction scores,” said Kapil Dev Singh, country manager, IDC India.

The study also points out that integrated digital camera, music player and stereo FM radio are the features, which lead users to upgrade their mobile phone. Even speakerphone is one of the features that users look for while upgrading their phones. On the other hand MMS feature is a failure because of to high cost of transmission.

Also IDC says that an average Indian mobile phone user talks for 56 minutes on the phone daily, whereas he/she receives 10 SMS’ every day and sends 8.

“The overall increased usage of SMS can be attributed to reasonable tariff charges and widespread usage of SMS by TV shows, public opinion polls etc., which has been continuously increasing year-on-year,” said Shailendra Gupta, senior manager, consumer research, IDC India.

The India Mobile Handset Usage and Satisfaction Study 2007 survey was conducted on a sample of 4,760 mobile phone users, which includes both GSM and CDMA located in four metros and other 18 cities.
