Karnataka Government Bans Mobile Phone for Kids Under 16 years of age

School going kids are crazy to use mobile devices. They constantly want newly featured handsets. My 13 year-old cousin brother, who lives in Karnataka, loves showing off his new mobile phone with great functionalities. Luckily, his school now no longer allow the use of a mobile phone.

Karnataka Government has planned to ban the use of mobile phones for children up to the age of 16 years. The reason for this ban is its adverse health effects. The government said that the radiation from the phones affects children 60 percent more than it does to adults, which could even lead to memory or hearing loss.

With the ban at school, the government is also planning to ban mobile phones at home for youngsters who are below 16 years of age. “We are further thinking applying it in bus stands and railway stations for people below 16. We will discuss with the police department and ask them to decide on the fines,” said Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti and Minister for Health and Family Welfare, R Ashok.

An official government notification on the ban will be issued soon. The mobile phone dealers will be informed not to sell handsets to anyone less than 16 years.

A program on the harmful effects of prolonged cell phone use will be conducted, which will create awareness among parents and children. Schools and Junior colleges have already banned the usage of mobile phones, two years ago.
