Let’s say, if the laptop is stolen, then the utility will lock-down in a manner that will not let it boot either by the use of hardware timers or notifications via internet. Replacing the hard drive after reimaging or changing the boot order are said to have no implications too. For that matter, even if the stolen laptop’s hard drive is attached to another notebook, the data will still remain locked.
When the gadget locks down, naturally so does the back-up that was created at the time of activation. A custom message can be spelt out to be displayed on locked laptops in case someone decides to return it to the rightful owner. This service is available on select devices running 2nd Generation Intel Core processors, purchasable from Croma.
Coming exclusively through Croma stores in India, Intel Anti-Theft Service will be bundled in with select laptops. The store is also offering it as a paid option starting at a price of Rs. 199 for a period of 2 years from the day the user activates the service. Intel will be responsible for service hosting, customer support and working with different OEMs to ensure the laptop hardware is embedded with Intel Anti-Theft Technology.
