Sony HMZ-T1 head-mountable personal 3D viewer with twin OLED panels

Sony HMZ-T1 Personal Viewer

Though Sony is not the first company to launch a personal 3D viewer, its head mountable display dubbed HMZ-T1 sure sounds promising. Employing two OLED panels, the Sony HMZ-T1 personal 3D viewer offers a movie theater-like experience in combination with its surround sound signal processing technology.

The personal viewer sports two 0.7-inch ultra-small High Definition color OLED panels of resolution 1280 x 720 to display high-contrast images. The dual panel 3D method utilized in the gadget displays separate images for each eye in order to deliver natural 3-dimensional pictures. These eye-sized displays offer an immersive viewing experience equivalent to watching a 150-inch screen from a distance of about 12-feet.

While eliminating the ghosting effect associated with 3D viewing, the device claims to project images which are crosstalk-free. And that’s not all, it is incorporated with the original virtual surround signal processing technology. Moreover, it is capable of transmitting audio similar to a 5.1 channel surround sound system. Also, the lightweight head-mounting gadget can be adjusted for a perfect viewing angle.

Sony has forayed into the 3D genre in the past with ‘Lens to the Living Room’ professional production technology and Bravia HDTVs. Additionally, the company also launched 3D variants of Vaio and PlayStation 3 along with Handycam and Cybershot cameras which capture 3D images.

It does appear like a good option to immerse ourselves in games and movies but the Sony HMZ-T1 personal 3D viewer will dig a hole in the pocket with its price tag of $799 (approx. Rs. 36,900). The device is slated to hit stores in the United States by November this year.
