Sanyo rides in with eneloop electric hybrid bikes

Sanyo Eneloop Bike

Bicycles are some of the most eco-friendly modes of transport and Sanyo has rolled in two new models of their eneloop bike line-up of electric hybrid bicycles dubbed CY-SPL226 and CY-SPL224. These SPL series bikes comes with a new Eco Charge mode for regenerative charging control that enables the rider to actively charge the battery while pedaling on flat grounds.

For those who are concerned about running out of battery power mid-journey when using this bike, its Power Reserve function works with a 7.6Ah Li-ion battery that provides an extended power resource. Eco Charge mode for flat roads controls the charging rate according to the amount of exertion on the pedals, speed, road and other conditions while enabling regenerative charging during rides.

Unlike Power Mode which utilizes the most battery power, Eco Charge Mode augments the riding distance on a single charge by around 53%, based on the new industry standard riding pattern. A Power Reserve function delivers additional power for motor assist after the charge indicator touches ‘battery depleted’ level. When only 1Ah of power is retained in the battery, holding down the power button for two seconds returns its charge indicator to ‘one light’ level and the motor assist resumes with up to 1Ah of remaining battery power.

The bike has a Class 25 rear luggage carrier that can hold approximately 22kg of luggage and ‘Easy Kickstand’ that is implemented on the lever principal basis. It features a Kurupita Handle Lock for parking convenience, taillight with braking indicator, three speed, Dimple Key backwheel lock, Comfortable Saddle for good support on long rides, Power Up Mode which provides a human-to-motor assist ratio of 1:2. Moreover, the low frame and low saddle design makes for comfortable riding and the aluminum frame contains the cables for a clean design.

Sanyo has priced their new eneloop electric hybrid bikes at ¥1,57,290 (approx. Rs.79,216) apiece. They will be sold across Japan from April 21, 2010 onwards.
