There’s always been a common perception about high-end products is that it will usually be highly priced. But a new device has been rolled out in the market that proves the above anecdote wrong. Western Digital’s AV-GP line of hard drives expands its storage capacity to a whopping 2 TB with a price tag of just $299.
Addressing the needs of today’s AV/Surveillance markets, the latest offering is said to be the industry’s largest available drive to-date is based on the company’s GreenPower Technology for lower power consumption (by up to 40% percent). It ensures cooler and quieter operation and even boasts the ability to withstand the stringent environments of the surveillance and security markets.
Ideal for audio and video applications, the 2TB AV-GP hard drive can be used effectively and reliably with DVRs (digital video recorders), media centers, media servers and even during surveillance video recordings.
“Our consumer electronics customers require hard drives that consume less power, generate less heat and operate quietly. Audio and video recording applications, such as DVRs, media servers, media centers and mainstream surveillance systems, often demand 24×7 operation from hard drives. Our drives meet the demanding requirements of these markets including higher reliability, universal compatibility, low power consumption and the ability to simultaneously record multiple audio and/or high-definition video streams,” commented Jim Welsh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of WD’s branded Products and Consumer Electronics Groups.
Additional highlights of the WD AV-GP line of hard drives include long-term reliability as it is capable of working in high-temperature and SilkStream for smooth and continuous video playback of up to 12 simultaneous HD streams. WD’s IntelliSeek, IntelliPark and IntelliPower technologies are also embedded for lower energy usage. It even comes with Preemptive Wear Leveling (PWL) that allows the drive’s arm to often clean the disk for eliminating the uneven wear on the surface.
The WD AV-GP 2 TB hard drive can be currently purchased through select e-tailers and distributors for a suggested price of $299 (approx. Rs. 14,118).
