Nixie Concrete Clock concept revealed

Nixie Concrete Clock

This is truly an example of how technology gets tougher and robust. Here’s one of a kind concept in the form of the Nixie Concrete Clock.

Designed by Daniel Kurth, vintage Z560M Nixie tubes are housed in a concrete block. The Nixie Concrete concept site reveals that the design is based on ‘the ‘retro technology’ and its interesting combination of components and materials, where one is easily fooled as to what is old and what is new.’

This prototype built with electronic components has been manually assembled. Unlike the other Nixie tubes-based clocks, this one does not incorporate a traditional display.

This 3.3 lbs device reveals a decent spec sheet which includes 12 / 24 hr mode, up to 200.000 hours tube lifespan, auto detection of 1Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz clock pulse input mode, eco-saver automatic dimming function, dimming via push button and wall mount capability.

Well, it displays the time in an unusual manner. The above picture flashes 10:23:54. It is supposedly acting as a stress buster by displaying the time in a playful manner. Well, we still wonder how it helps. Anyway, let’s see if it makes its way to production.
