Xerox Sustainability Calculator Measures Environmental Efficiency

Xerox Corporation has made up its mind to contribute in the ‘Go Green activism’ by developing a unique and useful service that identifies environmental impact while utilizing printers, copiers and multifunction devices.

Xerox Sustainability Calculator

Boasting to be the industry’s first Sustainability Calculator, this tool has the ability to gauge the overall impact a company’s document technologies have on the environment. It evaluates environmental benefits after considering energy and paper use, solid waste, water, air and greenhouse gas emissions.

“This calculator cracks the code to help offices of any size really understand just how ‘green’ their offices are or could be. We designed the Sustainability Calculator to be an effective environmental assessment tool. It provides customers with actionable recommendations to help them achieve their ‘green’ objectives and in doing so realize cost-savings and efficiency gains that come with an optimized office environment,” said John Kelly, president, Xerox Global Services North America.

The innovative tool is not restricted to Xerox itself, but also tracks printers, copiers and multifunction devices from other companies. It is equipped with proprietary algorithms and document assessment research to deliver data about a company’s entire office products, regardless of the equipment supplier. The Sustainability Calculator also offers details on the impact of printing on two sides as well as inform about using different types of papers.

According to Patricia Calkins, vice president of Environment, Health and Safety, Xerox, “The goal for the Xerox Sustainability Calculator is to point customers in the right direction, to identify opportunities where the reduced impact to the environment can be balanced with boosting the bottom line. We coupled our longstanding innovative leadership in the area of sustainability with our deep knowledge of the office environment to create a tool to help our customers save resources.”

The Sustainability Calculator has been incorporated in technology company Northrop Grumman Corporation’s products that delivered significant environmental measures, where it saved 27 percent in energy usage, 26 percent in greenhouse gas emissions and 33 percent in solid waste.
