Making a new exception to its otherwise pretty wide collection of gadgets mostly apt for businesses and grown-ups, the Lenovo ThinkPad X139e is specifically aimed at students, especially in grades K-12. To suit the needs of its target audience, the company says that it is outfitted with durable quality top cover, hinges, keyboard, and more.

Intended to aid school students in adapting to an environment of digital learning, the laptop is designed to support everyday wear and tear expected in a school atmosphere. The LED panel is secured with a plastic bezel of 1.2mm thickness. Its hinges promise up to 30,000 cycles, while the chances of harm due to falling are reduced by corners which are approximately 33 percent thicker. Shocks at the sides are absorbed by the rubber bumper over it.

“At Lenovo ThinkTank 2011 we brought hundreds of distinguished educators together, and the resounding feature CIOs told us that ranks highest on their list of features important for PC purchases is ‘ruggedness,’” comments Dilip Bhatia, vice president, ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo. “While we’ve built tough products for years that pass many military-grade tests, we’ve made specific improvements required for a laptop to be successful in an education environment with the ThinkPad X130e.”

In a bid to make the ThinkPad X130e comfortably useable throughout an entire school day, the company has steadied its weight at 1.78kg and the 6-cell battery offers an operation time of up to 8.5 hours. Additionally, buyers have an option of incorporating the AMD Fusion E-300 and E-450 or Intel second generation Core i3-2367M ULV processors. Along with Wi-Fi, the laptop also comes with VGA and HDMI connectivity options. It sports an 11.6-inch touchscreen and includes a webcam as well.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X130e price tag reads $469 (approx. Rs. 24,140) and it will hit markets on December 20.
