The increasing need for ultra mobility when it comes to PCs seems to be driving up the demand for laptops, netbooks and similar devices. That probably explains why manufacturers have been unleashing a host of such gizmos regularly. Now Sony has slid the covers off their Vaio Z series and Vaio F series notebooks.

Vaio Z notebooks feature 13.1” high-resolution LED backlit displays that render up to 100% color saturation. They incorporate SSDs in capacities of 512GB, depending on the model and deliver speedy boot-up functionality as also an HDMI output. The optional Blu-ray Disc optical drive lets users create, store and watch content in HD. They run with Microsoft’s Windows 7 Professional operating system.

The connectivity capabilities offered include optional 3G mobile broadband courtesy of Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth. The notebook’s hybrid graphics system lets owners extend battery life by switching between power and energy savings when needed. Speed, stamina and auto options enable the unit to select the right amount of power for computing use.

“Sony engineers have raised the bar once again,” remarked Mike Abary, senior VP of the VAIO business group, Sony. “By melding cutting-edge technologies such as a Blu-ray Disc optical drive, HDMI output and a hybrid graphics system into highly-mobile PCs, consumers can now enjoy HD content on their terms- in the living room, on–the-go, where ever.”

Vaio F series devices flaunt 16.4” screens and integrate Blu-ray Disc optical drives to create store as well as play back HD content. Each come powered by an Intel Core i& processor with four cores. The graphics are supplied by Nvidia GeForce dedicated graphics and lend support to Turbo Boost as also Hyper-Threading technology.

The notebook comes with Microsoft’s Windows Home Premium 64-bit OS and sports a backlit keyboard. Integrated Transfer Jet intelligence allows wireless transfer of photos from Transfer Jet enabled digital cameras. A dedicated button hosted by the PC provides access to Media Gallery software for media tasks. Both lines feature an assist button that connects to Vaio Care software for maintenance and troubleshooting assistance.

Sony’s Vaio F series laptops are already available for pre-order at prices starting from $1,000 (Rs.45,336), while the Z series will be out by late spring at an expected retail price of around $1,900 (Rs.86,137).
