Intel to Bring Classmate PC in India

Intel Classmate PC Intel the world’s largest semiconductor company is planning to introduce a range of low-cost PCs called Classmate PC, in India.

The Classmate PC is nothing but a small laptop based on Intel’s 900MHz Celeron-M processor. Besides, it features flash memory rather than a hard disk. As the name suggests the Classmate PCs is especially designed for school going children for their educational purposes.

In the middle of 2006 Intel had introduced the Classmate PCs first 60 classmate PCs to India for a pilot test. According to the sources, Intel is planning to ship 100 more

“To bring classmate PC to India is a part of world ahead program in which Intel works together with federal as well as local government to reach to the next 1-billion computer and Internet users. It has been designed for use by school children in developing countries.” said Rupal Shah Intel’s brand and promotions marketing group director, while commenting on the arrival of Classmate PCs.

“This is our first step to bring low-cost PCs in India,” she added further.

The Intel Classmate PC will be available at as low a price of anything between Rs 9,000 to Rs 11,000, depending upon the configuration.
