Toshiba Recalls 1,400 Laptop Batteries

Toshiba US has asked for a recall of 1,400 Sony batteries, used in Toshiba laptops. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries containing Sony cells used in Toshiba notebooks such as Satellite A100, Satellite A105 and Tecra A7 are being recalled by the company.

These batteries used in Satellite A100, Satellite A105 and Tecra A7 models from Toshiba built in the period of January 1 to April 30th of 2006, have reportedly caused an overheating problem. No injuries or deaths have been reported as yet. Toshiba has promised to replace the battery for affected owners.

Toshiba has also requested users to stop usage of the recalled batteries and contact Toshiba to receive a free replacement battery. However, until the replacement battery is received, users can continue using the notebook safely by turning the system off, removing the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power the system.

Also, the company said that users should only use those batteries, which are obtained from Toshiba or from an authorized Toshiba reseller.
