Dell Notebooks enter Sam’s Club Retail Stores in U.S.

Dell Inc. has announced to sell two notebook computer models at more than 580 of Wal-Mart stores’ Sam’s club in U.S, a company’s spokesperson said on Friday. Starting next week, this will be the latest move to sell computers in retail chains.

Breaking from its 23-year-old direct- to-consumer sales model as it tries to rekindle growth, Dell finalizes this strategy to turn the company around after growth slowed under former Chief Executive Kevin Rollins, whom Michael Dell replaced in January.

Dell spokesman David Frink said the Round Rock-based computer maker would sell copies of the Inspiron 1501 at Sam’s Club stores.

The company’s most popular notebook, the 1501, which generally cost $649, was offered for $549 on Friday.

“This is an additional step in our emerging retail strategy,” David Frink said

The Dell notebook computer model carries:

  • Dual-core processors from Advanced Micro Devices inc.,
  • 2 gigabytes of memory
  • 120-gigabytes hard-disk drives
  • Vista Home Premium operating system
  • Some analysts on Dell’s decision said that consumers want to see and touch notebooks before buying.

Founder of Dell, Michael Dell has planned this strategy to move into retail stores. Dell last year lost the top-selling PC spot to HP.
