For better flexibility and security in data management, Synology has added another member to its DiskStation family dubbed DS411 NAS server offering backup solutions. Aimed at offices and workgroup environment, the Synology DiskStation DS411 NAS server promises an attractive price/performance ratio.

The server claims to offer average read and write speeds of 105MB per second and 47MB per second, respectively. It has undergone tests under RAID 5 configuration and is said to conserve energy. It consumes a meager 29.7 watts power under load while only 11.0 watts when storage devices are switched to hibernation mode. The automatic RAID management with SHR (Synology Hybrid RAID) helps managing data by maximizing the disk capacity.

This server is equipped with the DiskStation Manager 3.1 (DSM 3.1) operating system like most other DiskStation servers. Along with support for rich office applications, the server allows sharing files between Windows, Mac and Linux operating system. Besides an intuitive and multitasking web-based user interface, the server comes with a number of security features. Suitable manual adjustments can also be made to RAID protected volume types.

In order to safeguard users’ data the server employs HTTPS secure connection, FTP over SSL in addition to Window ACL support and allows sharing folders. Some other means adopted for data protection are inclusive of firewall and IP auto-block. Also, the password feature integrated in the server avoids hacking. It also boasts of the 256-bit AES hardware encryption engine to ensure complete data protection.

The Synology DiskStation DS411 NAS server has started shipping around the world. Its pricing details have not been mentioned.
