Sony Internet TV featuring Google TV finally released

The recent scuttlebutts which ostensibly suggested the introduction of four different screen sizes of Sony’s Google TV has led the company to come out open about the news. The company has now released its new HDTV dubbed Sony Internet TV, which is powered by Google TV service for users to enjoy a variety of features right across their couch. Merging Sony’s expertise in hardware with Google’s software prowess, this novel entertainment device offers a seamless interface and an exclusive user experience.

Streaming videos, broadcasting, downloading content, and other functions are simply rendered by the HDTV. The device is powered by the Android platform and comes equipped with an Intel Atom processor for efficient multitasking. Users can also surf the Web on its Google Chrome browser, while the dual view allows users to simultaneously browse the Internet and watch television.

Sony’s premium ‘Video On Demand powered by Qriocity’ streaming service along with pre-installed apps such as YouTube, Twitter, Pandora, Netflix, NBA, Napster and CNBC are also included in the HDTV. The communicative handheld RF QWERTY keypad remote which is integrated with an optical mouse for flawless navigation is also bundled in. On the connectivity front, the Sony Internet TV comes embedded with Wi-Fi and slots to plug in select HD DVR devices from Dish Network. Interestingly, users will be able to control the DVR functionality using the set’s UI.

“Sony Internet TV is the world’s first HDTV that combines the big-screen impact of television and full Internet search to deliver an unrivaled entertainment experience. Finally, you can seamlessly search your favorite TV programs and web sites on the same screen, at the same time,” stated Mike Abary, senior vice president of Sony’s Home Division.

The 32” NSX-32GT1, the 40” NSX-40GT1 and the 46” NSX-46GT1 Sony Internet TVs flaunt full HD 1080p display with Edge LED backlight. The 24” NSX-24GT1 model, on the other hand, boasts of a full HD display with CCFL backlight. Additionally, the company has planned to add access to applications from the Android market beginning early 2011. Owners will also be able to control the TV with a mobile phone app (select handsets) which will be available from the Android Market later this fall.

The NSX-24GT1, NSX-32GT1, NSX-40GT1 and NSX-46GT1 models under Sony’s Internet TV line are priced at $599.99 (approx Rs. 26,457), $799.99 (approx Rs. 35,232), $999.99 (approx Rs. 44,098), and $1,399.99 (approx Rs. 61,694), respectively. Further, the NSZ-GT1 Sony Internet TV Blu-ray disc player with built-in Google TV costs $399.99 (approx Rs. 17,639). Users can purchase any of these variants through Sony Style beginning October 16 and Best Buy soon after that.
