With the enjoyment of 3D content on televisions picking up increasingly, manufacturers are busy sketching out innovative solutions to satiate this need. LG Electronics has now announced the availability of its new Infinia PX950 plasma HDTV. Touting to be the world’s first 3D HDTV to be THX Certified, the latest offering has been crafted in two screen sizes of 60- and 50-inches.

The company states that the models have firstly passed the compulsory THX certification for premium picture quality in 2D prior to 3D certification. Users can seamlessly view 2D or 3D cinema modes with the simple touch of a button. A cinematic viewing experience can be enjoyed by setting color temperature, luminance and gamma levels of the device. The plasma TV works with active shutter glasses and an emitter built directly into the TV.

“THX spent more than a year in the lab developing our certification criteria and testing methodologies for 3D TVs and content. To present a truly immersive 3D experience in the home, a THX 3D Certified TV must be capable of delivering consistent stereoscopic images with accurate color and clean processing. THX applauds the LG PX950 as the first 3D TV series to pass this rigorous testing to achieve THX certification,” shared Rick Dean, senior vice president at THX.

While watching fast action scenes in gaming, sports or movies, the PX950’s 600Hz max sub-field driving delivers blur-free images. LG’s 3D plasma panel and TruBlack filter produces deeper blacks and superior contrast levels by blocking external light reflections and exploiting the transmission of internal light. Besides, standard definition content can be transformed into near high-definition quality with the Dual XD Engine.

Multimedia buffs can rejoice on NetCast Entertainment access offered by the plasma TV. Users can take advantage of Netflix, VUDU, Yahoo! Widgets, YouTube, and Picasa Web Albums for entertainment purposes. The newly unleashed gadget is 2.1-inches thin and provides a wide 3D viewing angle fabricated by self-illuminating pixels. On the connectivity front, the device employs DLNA, NetCast, and support for MPF function which allows users to connect their 3D cameras to the TV in order to view images.

The LG Infinia PX950 series is now available in 60- and 50-inch class screen sizes for $2,999 (approx Rs. 1,39,140) and $1,999 (approx Rs. 92,745), respectively.
