Sony unveils W-Series of networked Bravia HDTV Sets

Sony Electronics launches a new line-up of networked Bravia HDTVs – the W-series (also known as the W5100 series) – comprising of the 52-inch KDL-52W5100, 46-inch KDL-46W5100 and 40-inch KDL-40W5100 (diagonal) models.

Offering a full HD 1920 x 1080 progressive (1080p) resolution, the W-series features an Ethernet connection to directly access Sony Bravia Internet Video content with the available broadband connection. Users can easily access free and premium movies, TV shows, sports, music and more from a host of partners such as Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Yahoo!, Sony Pictures and Sony Music amongst others.

Thanks to the Yahoo! Widget Engine, the new models support Bravia Internet Widgets to effortlessly take full advantage of favorite Internet content like Yahoo News, Video, Finance and Flickr. Users can even track their favorite sports team, check stocks and share photos while watching television.

With the incorporated Motionflow 120Hz technology, the W5100 series of Bravia HDTVs deliver enhanced sharpness and detail in fast-moving images. Apart from that, the HD television sets are based on Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 3 for a crystal clear picture.

Compatible with Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), the latest range of HDTVs from Sony promises to allow convenient access to digital photos, music and video stored on a PC or other DLNA server with the help of the XMB interface and the TV’s remote control.

The W5100 series models offer a USB input to connect compatible USB storage devices, 4 HDMI inputs and single PC, component, composite and S-video inputs. It also incorporates 24p True Cinema, XrossMediaBar (XMB) with enhanced 3D favorites menu, Internet-powered TV Guide Onscreen, Bravia Sync, Bravia Link Compatibility.

Moreover, these networked television models come bundled with the HT-CT500 3.1 channel sound bar with an A-V receiver that is compatible with full HD 1080p video and the latest advanced audio codecs. Sold separately, the sound bar theater system carries a price tag of $500 (approx. Rs. 26,035) and can be purchased from June.

Although no word on the pricing, the new KDL-52W5100, KDL-46W5100 and KDL-40W5100 networked televisions are slated to reach the market in spring.
