Sony and TomTom trot out 770BT and 660BT navigation systems

Sony seems to have touched multiple technological segments like computing systems, mobile phones, peripherals, entertainment and more. Entering a new market, the company has teamed up with TomTom to launch its first in-dash car A/V navigation systems, the XNV-770BT and XNV-660BT. Flaunting TomTom’s GPS technologies, these new devices ensure better coverage as well as an augmented navigation experience.

Exquisitely crafted, the latest offerings are loaded with extensive map database of both U.S. and Canada roads plus subsume one year of free map upgrades through TomTom. Over six million points of interest, including gas stations, restaurants, hotels, hospitals and more can be used for a seamless journey. The XNV-770BT’s 7-inch fully capacitive touch motorized panel display clearly showcases maps and other information. The XNV-660BT, on the other hand, comes fitted with a 6.1-inch capacitive touchscreen featuring multiple clickable keys or volume and key buttons.

“TomTom’s expertise in navigation and our long-standing tradition of premium audio and video are strongly represented with these new in-dash systems. This unique partnership and exciting product offerings represent a huge step forward for Sony in the mobile electronics business,” shared Mike Kahn, director of Sony’s mobile music business.

Both the devices allow multi-channel playback with Center Speaker Organizer that delivers virtual 5.1 channel surround sound throughout the car along with their WVGA display for sharp visuals. The advanced sound engine produces a high-quality acoustics, thereby rendering a digitally improved sound experience, while it also lets users customize the in-car sound field. Major highlights are graphical user interface, easy connection with iPod, iPhone and other digital music sources via rear USB-1 wire connectivity, simple-touch buttons, and full Bluetooth capability.

Further, the IQ Routes technology shows the fastest route possible to the entered destination. The Advanced Lane Guidance proffers enhanced lane graphics for effortless usage in complicated multi-lane situation, while the Quick GPSfix automatically updates satellite locations. Apart from this, MapShare permits users to correct their maps and upscale the changes made by other users through the computer and the free software.

The XNV-770BT and XNV-660BT A/V navigation systems are anticipated to be available next month through Sony’s official website for about $1,300 (approx Rs. 57,655) and $1,000 (approx Rs. 44,350), respectively. The devices will also be up for grabs through Sony Style retail stores and its authorized dealer network nationwide.
