Zeebo Console in the making!

We all know about the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 video game consoles. Now, a fourth and a very new video game console that is all set to come in the limelight for the middle-class buyers in emerging markets is the Zeebo Console.

Zeebo Video Game Console Zeebo with an aid from Qualcomm debuts in the gaming industry with the launch of its first video game console, dubbed the Zeebo game console. It is designed for consumers in the so-called BRIC nations that consist of Brazil, Russia, India and China. It is believed that these countries are generally not financial strong to purchase higher-end devices or games.

Henceforth, Zeebo has come up with an affordable gaming device that can operate in local languages and is said to be ‘culturally relevant’. Moreover, the company does not wish to enter the competition with the three established consoles.

“A console for these markets has got to be affordable,” stated Zeebo Chief Executive John Rizzo at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Besides, the Zeebo requires no disc or any other fixed media for gameplay. It works on a Qualcomm chipset that helps to connect over a wireless network. Users can even purchase and download games without any hassles. The reason to get all the games over a wireless network is to avoid uncontrollable piracy.

After acquiring the game, users can store them in the flash memory with a capacity of about 50 games into the system.

For its initial launch, the Zeebo video game console is priced at $199 (approx. Rs. 10,069) in Brazil. However, it is predicted to cost $150 (approx. Rs. 7,589) within a year’s time.
