40GB PS3 hitting North America on November 2nd

40GB PS3 Coming to US Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) has announced to ship 40GB model of the PlayStation3 in North America. The new low capacity model will be bundled with the super-hit movie Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray Disc (BD). The whole package will be available in North America at the price of US $399 (approx Rs. 15,870).

Also SCEA announced to cut down the price of its regular 80GB PS3 model by $100. That means now the 80GB PlayStation3 console will be available at the price $499.

“We’re pleased to offer the consumer a lower price point without sacrificing the core technology components that make PS3 the most advanced high-definition entertainment system available. Every PS3 comes with a Blu-ray drive, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine and a built-in hard-drive,” said Jack Tretton, President and CEO, SCEA.

“This holiday season we’ll be able to offer attractive retail pricing with a broad portfolio of outstanding games including Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT™, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune™, Heavenly Sword™, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin’s Creed, Haze and RockBand,” Tretton added.

Unlike the 80GB PlayStation3 the new 40GB model of PS3 is not backward compatible. The new model will start shipping from November 2.
