OLPC XO Laptops will Now be Preloaded with SimCity

OLPC XO Laptops with SimCity Game

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project which aims at providing a laptop to every child in developing countries for educational purposes, has now received a support from Electronic Arts (EA). The game development company has announced to supply SimCity, the 1989 classic game to OLPC XO.

The SimCity offered by EA will be Linux based as OLPC’s XO uses Linux operating system. Steve Seabolt, VP for Global Brand development at EA stated that this game will develop decision making skills. At the same time it will provide entertainment to children.

EA is also expected to provide special language support to SimCity as these PCs are targeted at the children located internationally.

OLPC’s laptops’ first batch has gone into production last week. These laptops are expected to be sent to various countries like Rwanda, Cambodia, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Haiti and India.
