3DV System unveils ZCam, a 3D PC Camera

3DV System logo Israel-based technology compact, 3DV Systems has unleashed its new low cost 3D PC camera, called the ZCam that senses depth in real-time.

Targeting at PC and video game industry, the gadget has the ability to radically change human-machine interfaces with its fine gesture recognition capability. This device can be connected to computers, consumer electronics, video games, automotive and robots. The first of its kind ZCam provides unparallel total immersion in the interactive experience.

“ZCam enables gamers, in a way never before possible, to interact intuitively and naturally with games,” Zvika Klier, CEO, 3DV Systems, said. “We invite content developers to join us in creating a new innovative experience, and are very excited by the reaction of the developer community so far.”

The latest camera has the potential to delivers depth images at 60 frames per second, even by doing away with any perceived latency. Offering low CPU consumption of the unit, gamers gets the freedom to enjoy their games without draining their system’s processing power.

Boasting to offer highest resolution, the camera works seamlessly in any room, night or day and even in any lighting conditions. As gamers become the interface, the game design will determine how the inputs work: motion can be navigated simply with a thumb or the entire body can become the controller through three-dimensional movement. The player can be represented in the game with his/her own real-time image and the game can be operated either bare-handed or with a designated object, replacing the need for a control pad.

Housed in a sturdy casing with a small footprint, ZCam also carries an easy-to-use Software development Kit to enhance games or create brand new novel ideas.
