Amazon declares new Kindle Cloud Reader

Amazon Declares Kindle Cloud ReaderAfter presenting readers with numerous Kindle reading apps for over two years, Amazon has now disclosed the availability of the latest reading application from the company called the Kindle Cloud Reader. It employs HTML5 and allows customers to read Kindle books through their web browser, regardless of whether they are online or offline and devoid of any need to download or install.

Just like other Kindle apps, this reader also automatically organizes users’ Kindle library including the last page they had read, bookmarks, notes and highlights for all their Kindle books. They are enabled to read more than 950,000 Kindle books immediately within the web browser.

Dorothy Nicholls, Director, Amazon Kindle stated, “We are excited to take this leap forward in our ‘Buy Once, Read Everywhere’ mission and help customers access their library instantly from anywhere. We have written the application from the ground up in HTML5, so that customers can also access their content offline directly from their browser. The flexibility of HTML5 allows us to build one application that automatically adapts to the platform you’re using – from Chrome to iOS. To make it easy and seamless to discover new books, we’ve added an integrated, touch optimized store directly into Cloud Reader, allowing customers one click access to a vast selection of books.”

Users can save their current book for reading later even when offline and gain access to the embedded Kindle Store. Besides offering customers a vast collection of books, the reader also lets them tweak the page layout as per the font size, text color and background color they want.

The Kindle Cloud Reader has been optimized for the size and touch interface of the iPad. It is available for Safari on iPad, desktop and Chrome. The application is scheduled to release for web browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, the BlackBerry PlayBook browser and other mobile browsers in the following months. Customers of Amazon can read their Kindle books via this app at amazon.com/cloudreader.
