The Samsung 40-inch Optical Sensor in Pixel LCD panels have now gone into mass production, according to the company. These are the same 40-inch LCD panels that are seen on the Samsung SUR40 Microsoft surface. Last month, we reported about the SUR40 being up for pre-order and very close on heels of that announcement, the company has revealed that it will be aiming to churn out the panels in large volumes.

The LCD panels are said to be integrated with advanced optical sensors that make use of the in-built infrared sensors to detect reflected images of objects on the panel. Furthermore, owing to an optical sensors being present in each pixel of the panel, it will apparently assess the touch sensitivity more accurately when compared with other touch panels in the market.

“Our Optical Sensor in Pixel panel has overcome the limitations of touch functionality that have hampered the effectiveness of most interactive displays,” states Younghwan Park, senior vice president of sales and marketing team, Samsung Electronics LCD Business. “With the world’s first mass production of an Optical Sensor in Pixel LCD, Samsung Electronics has set its sights on taking the lead in the global interactive display market.”

Potential users can even view images in full HD resolution at reasonably wide angles. Plus, with the ability to detect as many as 50 touch points simultaneously, multiple users can work on the device at the same time. The panel can be applied to deliver a tabletop option or can even be mounted on a wall. These Samsung panels may be found applicable in a number of arenas including business as well as education sectors.

As mentioned before, the Samsung 40-inch Optical Sensor in Pixel LCD panels have been into volume production since the month of November 2011.
