Retrevo envisions 3DTV to dominate this year

Retrevo 3DTV Prediction

The latest 3D technology seems to be grabbing a lot of eyeballs these days thanks to movies like Avatar and 3D channels like ESPN launched online. According to Retrevo’s official blog, this phenomenon might result in a lot of homes welcoming 3DTVs by the end of this year.

On the basis of a survey conducted by the company, about 39% audiences were positive about bringing in 3DTVs home in December 2009 which was pre-Avatar release. In January 2010, after the launch of the movie, the number grew up to 60% followed by 86% in May this year.

Amongst the people wanting to buy a TV this year, about 35% opted to purchase a 3DTV. The company notices a strong inclination of the audiences towards 3DTVs. Almost 1/3 of the people surveyed were holding back their HDTV purchases because of 3DTVs. The demand for the TVs might be directly proportional to the increase in the number of 3D Blu-ray movies released.

The survey also concluded that of the many reasons, the main one for people not making an immediate purchase of the 3DTVs was its high price. The company, however, explains that the rise in demand for these TVs might cause their price to descend. The other reasons included the need to wear glasses followed by lack of programming.

The survey concludes the reasons why people are skeptical about grabbing their 3DTVs can be looked into. Employing better marketing strategies and cutting down the price of the product may help to garner higher sales of the 3DTVs.
