As an increasing number of multimedia and video content developers are shifting to widescreen aspect ratio, projectors with wide screen format are gaining popularity. Owing to this shift, SMART Technologies is all set to launch the SMART Board 685ix, an interactive whiteboard system. The board promises to deliver a never before interactive experience.
This system constitutes of SMART Board 685, wall-mount and UX60 widescreen projector. This ultra-short-throw projector comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a WXGA resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The system provides high definition image quality and easy access to other peripherals from the front of the room.
The Texas Instrument’s DLP Brilliant Color technology provides a high contrast engine which delivers stunning color along with vibrant crystal clear images. The DLP also eliminate color decay and maintains the quality of the color for years. The other specifications include aspect ratio of 16:9, 2,000 lumens of brightness, 2000:1 contrast ratio and a lamp life of 3,000 hours in standard mode and 4,000 hours in economy mode. The system also provides a slot for Kensington lock and projector padlock loop.

The projector that the SMART Board 685ix bundles up mounts on the wall just above the interactive whiteboard system and extends only up to 16 inches from the wall. The 87-inch widescreen provides almost 20 percent workspace compared to the former SMART Board 680. The extended control panel allows users to control the power, source selection, volume and an integrated USB hub.
This network enabled projector bundles up VGA, USB and audio connection ports. The projector eliminates the filter used in projectors working on LCD technology and thus eliminates the need for monthly cleaning.
The SMART Board 685ix interactive whiteboard system will be available for purchase from October this year. It will be available via SMART’s authorized dealers. The system will cost approximately Rs. 2,88,374 in India. The company will provide the system to educational institutions for approximately Rs. 2,06,679.
