Sharp introduces five color LCD display

Sharp LCD Display

Sharp introduces its LCD screen which is capable of reproducing 99 percent of the colors existing in real life. This screen incorporates five primary colors against the traditional norm of three. This feature helps the LCD to display real surface colors that humans are capable of perceiving.

The pixel-structure of the display panel is based on five colors namely red, green, blue, yellow and cyan. The Multi-Primary-Color technology also includes a special image processing circuitry. The five-color combination expands the range of reproducible colors to meet those of the human eye.

The company claims that the adoption of this prototype helps conserve energy and the LCD also uses the backlight.

The LCD measures 60.5-inches and has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The contrast ratio of 2000:1 and brightness of 450cd/m sq is pleasing to the eye. The LCD has a color temperature of 6, 500K.

A prototype of this LCD display will be presented at the international symposium of the Society for Information Display (SID).
