Toshiba and Sharp team-up to produce Flat Panel LCD

Toshiba and Sharp logo Earlier this week, we reported that Toshiba and Sharp will together develop LCD Panels. Now, both the competitors have revealed their alliance to produce flat panel LCDs.

In this business venture, Sharp will sell its LCD panels, which will be developed in a new 3 billion dollar factory, to Toshiba. However, these LCD panels would be sold under Sharp’s name.

Toshiba plans to construct their own competing LCD big screen televisions and monitors with these LCD panels. Reportedly, Sharp is expected to manufacture and market Toshiba’s large 40-to-60-inch LCD panels.

This agreement will strengthen the business relationship between both the electronics giants. Sharp and Toshiba will lead to trading in necessary image processing chips, in the near future.

Sharp mentioned that it plans to buy half of its LSIs from Toshiba will be achieved by 2010. Moreover, Toshiba is expected to buy 40 percent of its LCDs from Sharp during the same time.

Both the Japanese television rivals announced these decisions at a news conference. However, no financial details have been revealed.
