Today LG Philips announced that it is developing a dirt resistant 15.4-inch TFT LCD panel for notebook PCs. According to the manufacturer, the new display allows easy removal of smudges, dust, fingerprints and also permanent ink.
The usual coatings for TFT LCD panels, which are polarizer film protects users from glare and reflections. Many times such coatings hold dirt and oil because of its chemical properties.
LG Philips achieved the mark of dirt-free LCDs by adding another coating on the polarizer film. It is a time consuming process and little costly too.
According to Byung-Chul Ahn, head of development of advanced technology for LG.Philips LCD, “Our new panel employs a principle similar to that used on non-stick frying pans. Dirt and oil can easily be wiped away.”
This technology is expected to go into mass production by the beginning of next year.
