Hitachi to demo 47-inch display with 8,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio at CEATEC Japan 2007

Hitachi LCD Display Hitachi has developed a new display with advanced features. Hitachi plans to present the new monitor at CEATEC Japan 2007.

The enhanced specs of the Hitachi display include 47-inch display screen with an improvised dark room contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1, which has been achieved through the multiplication of the LCD panel’s and projector’s contrast ratios.

The monitor has adopted the company’s hybrid monitor technology that merges an LED panel and LCD projector. In addition, the panel surface luminance is 700 cd/m2 when displaying white.

According to Hitachi, the LCD panel is a so-called full HD model that delivers 1980 x 1080 resolution, whereas the LCD panel used as the projector offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

What more is known is that the technology utilizes a projector as a backlight system of an LCD panel. It is said that Hitachi’s new display has the ability to render better gradation in dark scenes because of the LCD panel and the projector control gradation.

No news on the price and the availability of the Hitachi 47-inch LCD display.
