Revamped Apple iMac comes with Enhanced Processor Speed

Apple has announced that they have enhanced its all-in-one iMac line. The company has worked upon the Intel Core 2 Duo processors’ speed as well the most powerful graphics. The revised version of iMac has faster processors with 6MB L2 cache and a faster 1066 MHz front-side bus and 2GB of memory standard across the entire line.

The 24-inch iMac provides a 3.06 GHz Intel processor, the high-performance NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS graphics, 512MB of video memory, integrated AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi networking that delivers up to five times high performance than 802.11g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, incorporated iSight video camera, five USB 2.0 ports (including two on the Apple Keyboard), one FireWire 400 and one FireWire 800 port amongst other features.

According to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, “The iMac’s gorgeous aluminum and glass all-in-one design has been an incredible hit with our customers and is just one of the reasons Mac sales are growing three and a half times faster than PC sales. With the latest Intel processors, a faster new graphics option and more memory, customers now have even more reasons to love the iMac.”

After the increase in speed, the latest upgraded iMac goes green by using highly recyclable and durable materials including scratch-resistant glass and professional grade aluminum. Moreover, the company also claims that the iMac line is rated EPEAT Silver and also meets the stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements for power consumption.

Very innovatively Apple plans to offer customers a free recycling of their old computer or Mac, thanks to the Apple Recycling Program. It supports the Leopard operating system, offering features such as Time Machine, a redesigned Finder, Quick Look, Dock and major enhancements to Mail, iChat and many more.

The new 20-inch 2.4 GHz iMac costs $1,199 (approx. Rs. 47,960), the new 20-inch 2.66 GHz iMac retails for $1,499 (approx. Rs. 59,960) and the 24-inch 2.8 GHz iMac is priced at $1,799 (approx. Rs. 71,960).
