Tata Docomo’s latest entrant has taken connectivity a step ahead in India. The Tata Docomo 3G Wi-Fi Hub allows multiple users to stay connected and facilitates wireless Internet access on devices like laptops, tablets, gaming consoles and Wi-Fi enabled televisions.

The device, touted to be first of its kind in India, allows users to instantly move from Tata Docomo’s 3G GSM network, available in nine Tata Docomo circles to Tata Photon on CDMA at other locations. A speed of up to 7.2 Mbps is offered by the device on GSM networks and up to 3.1Mbps on CDMA network and in the High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) mode.

“Our latest offering, 3G Wi-Fi Hub, reaffirms our commitment to customers, that of making connectivity easy and relevant for a cross-section of user categories,” said Deepak Gulati, Executive President, Mobility Business, Tata Teleservices Limited. “This portable device signals a breakthrough in the Wi-Fi space and is yet another first-of-its-kind product, offering dual Internet access technology. The sleek new product will be especially relevant in the context of today’s fast-evolving and changing products, most of which are Wi-Fi-enabled—laptops, desktops, iPads, mobile phones, even digital cameras. Best of all, given its Wi-Fi capabilities, it allows multiple users to stay connected simultaneously,” he added.

Apart from password-protection, the device is equipped with a portable powered battery and browser-based configuration. Users purchasing the device will be given a starter pack with both Tata Docomo 3G GSM and Tata Photon Plus start-up kits (SUKs). Both SUKs need to be activated separately by submitting the required documents.

“The 3G Wi-Fi Hub is a trim and compact device, convenient to carry even in one’s pocket. With this new product, Tata Docomo has taken the concept of ‘Anytime, Anywhere Wi-Fi Internet Connectivity’ to the next level. The device comes with innovative post-paid plans. These offer a customer-friendly package and will ensure that we offer a complete solution in terms of an efficient device and tariff combo. The high point is the fact that the device works on both the 3G and Photon (CDMA) platforms, depending on the SIM inserted,” quoted Sunil Tandon, Head, Devices & Mobility Support Services, Tata Teleservices Limited.

The two post-pay plans at which the device is available are Wi-Fi Rs.750 and Wi-Fi Rs.1000. On a monthly rental of Rs.750, users can enjoy data usage of 2GB and will be charged 50 paise/MB on further use. The unlimited plan includes 5GB data usage on a monthly rental of Rs.1000. If the usage extends beyond 5GB then the ‘throttle option’ allows enjoying unlimited data usage. The surfing speed depends on the location, number of people using the network and device configuration.

The Tata Docomo 3G Wi-Fi Hub is available through its stores and also at Tata Photon outlets for Rs. 5,999.
