NEC has surprised other computer leaders like IBM, by showcasing SX-9, the most powerful supercomputer ever.

Supercomputer is not a normal consumer product but is used for advanced research where one requires giant calculations. They are essentially used in areas such as space science, environmental simulations and meteorology

This latest SX-9 supercomputer offers the speed of 839 teraflops, each teraflop is a trillion calculations per second), NEC claims.

Moreover, NEC’s SX-9 is 13 times faster than that its previous model called the SX-8 and also energy efficient as compared to its predecessor.

Senior Vice President, NEC Yoshikazu Maruyama stated that, “This is a superb product. We believe we are at the top in this genre.”

Also, this supercomputer is as small as an instant passport photo booth and rents for a price of 2.98 million yen ($26,000) a month.
