Amazon Kindle color tablet releasing this November?
Rumor mills have been abuzz with speculations about the Amazon Kindle color tablet making a debut on the e-retail website and it turns out that they were true. Reportedly, TechCrunch laid hands on the 7-inch tablet which is said to be inspired from the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Though it is being portrayed as the iPad rival, the Kindle tablet seems to be a direct competitor of the Barnes & Noble Nook color reader. The 7-inch tablet fitted with a color capacitive multitouch display does not sport a single key. The all black rubberized flip side is what makes it look like the PlayBook.
According to TechCrunch, the tablet does boast of the Android operating system, but it is a forked version and does not provide access to most Google Mobile services. Apparently, it uses the Kindle OS which is built using the Android version prior to 2.2 and offers access to the Amazon Android Appstore and not the Android Market. There are very slim chances of this tablet getting an upgrade to Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich.
There isn’t much information about the hardware but it is believed that the Amazon Kindle color tablet runs on a single-core chip. The internal memory of this device is only 6GB but it will allow extra storage with the help of Amazon cloud services. The Wi-Fi enabled tablet will be devoid of 3G capabilities, initially. It does not have a camera but is incorporated with speakers in addition to a micro USB port.
This tablet is undergoing certain software modifications and will hopefully go up for sale by November. Also, Amazon is planning to launch another tablet in the first quarter of 2012 which will employ a 10-inch touchscreen. The 7-inch tablet is priced way less than the iPad but not as low as the TouchPad.
The Amazon Kindle color tablet is slated to hit stores by November this year. It carries a price tag of $250 (approx. Rs. 11,486).
