Feature-rich DRS Armor X10gx rugged tablet PC to ship next month

After Notion Ink enlightened technology lovers about the release of the Adam tablet, another company has come forth with a rugged tablet device. DRS Tactical Systems has unveiled the Armor X10gx tablet PC designed to offer enhanced performance even in rugged conditions. The gadget is fitted with a 10.4” XGA Transmissive sunlight-readable LCD that exhibits resolutions of 1024 x 768p.
The gadget is powered by the Intel Core2 Duo processor and embraces 4GB RAM. It flaunts the Intel embedded Montevina system design and comes with a 64GB SSD out of which 160GB is user-replaceable. This Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR ready device is attributed with 802.11n wireless LAN connectivity.
“The ARMOR X10gx is our tenth generation offering. We have drawn upon many years of our experience as well as the experience from our military and commercial personnel that have deployed our rugged mobile computers around the world,” explained Mike Sarrica, vice president and general manager for DRS Tactical Systems.
The navigational functionality of this tablet is backed by a built-in GPS system. Additionally, it is equipped with two RF ports for switching between internal antennas within the unit as well as external antennas. Apart from the docking system, the unit flaunts optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband capability and AT&T wireless certification.
“To meet the demanding conditions encountered by people working in field service, transportation, rail and port facilities, public safety, and other areas of challenging environments, our new rugged tablet meets MIL-STD-810G and is approved by UL for use in explosive and/or hazardous environments,” added Sarrica. “It also carries an ingress protection rating of 67, meaning it is fully protected against dust and can withstand the effects of immersion in water to depths up to 1m.”
The X10gx comes pre-loaded with the Windows 7 OS and its chassis is embedded with three USB 2.0, an RS-232, an audio, an RJ-45 and an HDMI display port as well as an Enhanced legacy docking connector and a DC Power Jack. The offering runs on two 2400mAHr hot-swappable Li-ion batteries. It uses a 100V-240V 50/60Hz AC adapter with auto sensing/worldwide power supply features.
The dimensions of the tablet measure 290mm x 218mm x 45 mm and it weighs about 2.2kg. It is backed by a standard three year limited warranty. The Armor X10gx tablet is slated to hit stores in September 15 this year. Pricing details of this gadget are still under wraps.
