GammaTech unveiled two new rugged and accident-resistant Durabook Tablet computers at CES, namely Durabook R13S and RT7V.

Both the tablet PCs boast to withstand drop from 3 feet, spill, dust and shock with their durable lightweight shell. Housed in magnesium top and bottom cases, the LCD and other important internal components such as CPU and hard disk are well protected. Moreover, the Durabooks claim to employ an exclusive optical disk tray lock to avoid accidental tray ejection during the course of drop or vibration.

Powered by Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, the Durabook R13S tablet PC features include a 13.3-inch convertible display with a sunlight-readable option, internal TPM and 250 GB hard drive with encryption capabilities for increased security options and compatibility with multiple wireless options.

Security wise, the convertible computing device incorporates HDD User Password Protection, fingerprint recognition technology, and a Kensington Lock. Weighing 3.8kgs and measuring 344 x 253 x 58mm (W x D x H), it works on 9 cell lithium ion battery to deliver over 6 hours of operation between recharges.

Coming to the Durabook RT7V Tablet, it is fueled by VIA C7-M ULV processor and comes equipped with VIA VX700 chipset, up to 120GB storage space and a 7-inch color LCD with touch screen functionality.

Available in dimensions of 227 x 161 x 31.5mm (W x D x H), the 1.15kg robust tablet integrates security features such as HDD User Password Protection and BIOS I/O lock. Running on Microsoft Windows XP operating system, the Durabook RT7V tablet utilizes a 4 cell lithium ion battery to offer 2.5-3 hours.

The Durabook R13S and the Durabook RT7V Tablet are available through authorized resellers worldwide or from GammaTech directly. However, price is yet to be announced.
