WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB notebook HDD begins shipping in India
Early this year, Western Digital was spotted launching its WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB HDD and the company has now begin volume shipments of the same in India. These HDDs are designed for notebooks and each boast of a two-platter form factor with every disk utilizing 500GB areal density.
The sleek 9.5mm, 2.5-inch drive is complete with features like low power consumption and shock tolerance. The power management specs and algorithms allow the device to optimally seek the data, which in turn regulates the power usage properly. Since notebooks are often utilized when on the move, silent operation may be one factor that users look for in HDDs. The company claims that with its WhisperDrive technology, the storage gadget is one of the quietest in the market. Then there is the ShockGuard technology in place to protect the platter surfaces and functions from shock.
“With the release of the 1 TB WD Scorpio Blue notebook drive in a 9.5 mm package, WD is able to offer the greatest storage capacity available for use in portable computing environments,” states Sushil Bandi, WD’s country manager, India.“Mobile users no longer need to choose maximum capacity over thin and light, WD is ready with storage options, achieved without compromise to performance and reliability, that prove ideal for mobile digital devices of all kinds including PC and Mac notebook computers; external storage; and digital media players.”
Additionally, the company’s SecurePark feature tries to ensure that the recording head stays off the disk surface when it’s spinning up/down or when the drive is not in the functioning mode. This should result in low head wear since the recording head never touches the disk. The technology also enhances the non-operational shock tolerance of the drive. Although the WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB notebook HDD is compatible with many platforms, the new drive possessing advanced features, rubs along well with systems running Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard and Windows 7 as well as Vista.
The WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB notebook HDD price tag reads about Rs. 10,650 and it’s now shipping through select resellers and distributors in India.
